about
NAME: Erik Magnus LehnsherrNICKNAMES: Magneto
AGE: 34
DATE OF BIRTH: November 13
MARITAL STATUS: single
SEXUALITY: Complicated. Mutantsexual is the easiest descriptor; it trumps gender every time. If you're something more than human, you'll catch his interest, which is the first step toward the possibility of attraction. Mutations aside, and if there aren't any mutants around, he's much more often attracted to men than women.
OCCUPATION: terrorist/revolutionary
HOMETOWN: Dusseldorf, Germany
CURRENT RESIDENCE: Washington, DC
PARENTS: deceased
SIBLINGS: none

I wear red, the color of blood, in tribute to their lost lives. And the harder I try to cast it aside, to find the gentler path, the more irresistibly I am drawn back.
personality
QUIRKS: uses his power for shock value whenever possible, and won't hesitate to mention that he thinks mutants are a superior race.
LIKES: meeting other mutants/powered people, using his power, reading or listening to music when he can be convinced to relax long enough.
DISLIKES: small talk, forced social interaction, talking about himself.
Anyone meeting Erik for the first time would find him charming and well spoken, his veneer of aloofness almost impossible to crack. Always cool, always detached, Erik is an emotional iceberg-- frozen on top, terrifyingly deep underneath. He is all too aware of what happens when your enemies know your weak spots, so he endeavors not to have any-- at least not where anyone can see them.

He's gotten very skilled at letting people think he's opening up to them, getting people to trust him so they'll be honest with him. That serves him less well when he's not on a secret revenge mission; the cool persona is more likely to crack upon repeat encounters with the same person, to show the real personality beneath. Erik is naturally suspicious and cagey, and shares as little about himself as possible, though what he does share is likely to be the truth-- he'd almost always rather dissemble than lie.
When it comes to conflict, he's not afraid of it, whether it's arguing verbally or lashing out physically. He'll fight with words, fists or powers if he's being attacked, or if he determines an attack is on the way. Erik has needed to be ruthless to get what he needs to survive, and he doesn't flinch away from extreme measures. It also makes him sharp-edged with people, easily offended, and slow to forgive.
That said, Erik isn't without a sense of humor. He can be genuinely convivial and even friendly under the right circumstances, though social situations are not often comfortable for him. He doesn't really know how to relax or have fun for its own sake, but in a collaborative atmosphere of working toward a common goal he will often drop his guard a little, however unconsciously. It's possible to get to know Erik in spite of himself, but it takes time and dedication and a willingness to forgive his temper when it flares.

appearance
HEIGHT: 6'2"
BUILD: slim, but strong
HAIR: reddish-brown
EYES: grey-blue
SCARS / MARKS: the numbers 214982 tattooed into his left forearm
ACCENT: German, though it's been muddled by years of travel to be something softer and more indistinct.
Erik walks with a long, quick stride and perfect posture. His movements are spare and purposeful, and he doesn't talk with his hands. Even when he's nominally relaxing, there's a tension in him that never quite goes away. His body language often expresses his mood much more eloquently than his face. He often smirks, rarely smiles.

Erik is always dressed neatly, always, from neat hair to shined shoes. You'll almost never see him in disarray, unless you catch him working out or burst into his room while he's sleeping. You'll never see him barefoot or walking around in his pajamas; if he's out of his room, he's dressed, no exceptions. His idea of a casual outfit is pressed khaki trousers and a polo shirt. He favors pullover sweaters and trenchcoats when it's cold, and likes a three-piece suit with a three-button jacket to dress up.
A note about Erik's tattoo: he doesn't shy away from showing it, but won't talk about it unless asked directly. He's pretty adept at telling the difference between people who actually don't know what it means, and people who are pruriently curious.
history
You can read a summary of the events of X-Men: First Class here. In short: Nazis, Shaw, revenge, Miami, bromance that turned into a romance, rage and serenity, Cuba, beach divorce. Erik leaves his canon a few days after leaving Cuba, but before the attack on the CIA facility to liberate Emma Frost.
From there, he traveled to a space station called Proserpina, where he spent a year in close quarters with people of all sorts, from Captain America to Sherlock Holmes to Lwaxana Troi and more. He met the Marvel 616 Mystique, who wasted no time telling him all about his future as the mutant messiah, and reinforcing the message that that's who he's meant to be. The station also dampened all super powers to around 20% of their full strength, which meant Erik also had to deal with being cut off from a huge part of his identity. Needless to say, he didn't enjoy it much.
After a year of that, Charles arrived with no memory of their history beyond their trip to Russia, and it was up to Erik to keep their relationship-- and its disastrous end in Cuba-- to himself. That didn't work out so well. The powered people got their powers back just in time for the station to unleash a horde of monsters bent on wiping the residents out, and during the battle Erik lost his helmet and Charles was able to read his mind. He found out everything, and naturally, wasn't best pleased about it. About a week later, Erik went through a door on the station and found himself in the Nexus hotel.

Erik's room number is 26, and his room looks very similar to any you might find in a hotel in 1960s America. You can see examples here, and in the lower right corner here.
